Controls Engineer

Location: Spokane, WA


Pearson is looking for a Controls Engineer to join our team. The qualified individual will design and develop all aspects of electrical control systems for end-of-line packagingmachinery. They will be responsible for the installation and technical support of servo and PLC-based hardware and software, and should be proficient with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in the field of electro-mechanical equipment design and manufacture. Up to 25% travel is required as needed to fulfill responsibilities.


  • Prepare detailed designs based on written specifications of desired machinery function including panel designs, wiring schematics, and instrumentation layouts
  • Provide support to Sales, Project Management, Manufacturing, and Assembly groups
  • Prepare specifications, BOMs and cost estimates for customer-driven requirements
  • Provide in-field and phone support for service activities
  • Work within design teams to ensure project performance deadline and budget commitments are met
  • Troubleshoot problems occurring during development, assembly, testing, or commissioning of machinery
  • Provide engineering support for product lifecycle management and other processes as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Five years experience with PLC, HMI, Servo control and Integration; familiarity with Allen Bradley Logix PLCs and PanelView Plus HMIs a plus
  • Robotic programming and troubleshooting skills + three years experience with robotic integration; FANUC experience a plus
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD (ideally AutoCAD Electrical)
  • RIA and electrical code knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to generate and validate concepts, design, and coordinate assigned projects by delivering high-quality design products including timely engineering releases, accurate BOMS, and minimal design errors either functional or specification-related
  • Sound knowledge of Engineering processes and their effect on company processes
  • Ability to provide sound judgment and contribute to cross-functional teams
  • Ability to accept responsibility and accountability of new and varied assignments
  • Excellent technical, verbal communication, organizational, and problem solving skills
