Sr. Design Engineer – Systems Integration

Description

Serve as a principle mechanical engineering resource for Pearson Systems Solutions Group throughout the project delivery cycle, to achieve overall success by ensuring that integrated packaging systems are delivered on time, within scope, within budget, and provide solutions that achieve customer satisfaction.  This position reports to the Vice President of Engineering and may manage additional Engineering roles dedicated to the delivery of Pearson Integrated Packaging Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and support delivery of high performing packaging system solutions through strong engineering execution and collaboration skills. Demonstrate excellent communication, organization and leadership skills. Maintain positive customer and vendor relationships both directly and through subordinates from receipt of purchase order through system commissioning.
  • Perform concept validation through engineering tools and discipline to ensure system deliverables, as quoted or as modified if required, meet customer requirements and will perform as sold.
  • Anticipate and monitor potential project delivery, cost or performance concerns, to ensure risks are identified early in the project lifecycle. Create and execute appropriate risk mitigation plans. Report regularly to Project Management until resolution is achieved.
  • Coordinate with the project management function for cost and or schedule impact estimating and execution of customer generated change orders. Perform and manage adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Applications Engineering, contractors and equipment vendors to implement system standards and enhancements. Support development and maintenance of a preferred supplier list.
  • Perform site audits as needed to support all phases of system project delivery. May include but not limited to, third party equipment evaluation (FAT) or customer site visits at various project phases.
  • Direct, manage and or perform system or equipment design reviews independently and or in collaboration with Project Management and the customer as needed.
  • Actively participate or direct as needed, project related customer or vendor meetings, either virtual or on location, representing PSSG in an engineering capacity.
  • Perform independently with minimal supervision and work with others developing trusting relationships.
  • Adapt quickly to a complex culture and develop successful professional relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Be willing and able to travel to supplier or field installation sites regularly, and occasionally, for extended stays. Overall travel expectation to average 25% fieldwork.

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide sound judgment and to lead and organize cross-functional meetings, direct and influence people in a professional manner.
  • Capable of working on concurrent complex technology projects and able to communicate, written and verbal, clearly and effectively to executive and business audiences.
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
  • Flexibility that allows effective teamwork with people at all levels of the organization.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in design and execution of industrial automation system integration.
  • 3+ years supervisory experience
  • Microsoft Office Including Project
  • AutoCAD Mechanical
  • AutoCAD Inventor a Plus
