Materials Engineer

Your role with us:

As a Materials Engineer for Pearson Packaging Systems, you will develop approaches and define material selection to solve for mass reduction and increased strength in traditional parts/assemblies. This role utilizes CAD modeling and drafting software to establish composite part design and perform simulations to ensure that secondary packaging designs are feasible and technically acceptable. This involves brainstorming design concepts and assisting in solving technical challenges for process design and materials selection related to high-speed packaging equipment. Requires up to 25% travel.

You have extensive knowledge of common composite materials such as carbon fiber, S-glass, basalt fibers, layered epoxy composites, and thermoset and thermoplastic polymers.
  • You are a leader. You are able to effectively lead in the selection of parts, materials, and processes. You can provide technical oversight with vendors, team members, and customers to solve complex technical problems.

Responsibilities

How you will contribute to our growth:

  • By coordinating with other disciplines such as Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Procurement to ensure cost effective and timely designs
  • Through leading the selection of Parts, Materials, and Processes on new and/or existing designs that will help grow our use of technology further

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed:

  • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge of common composite materials including carbon fiber, S-glass, basalt fibers, layered epoxy composites, or thermoset and thermoplastic polymers.
  • 3+ years in a manufacturing environment with experience developing and applying composite manufacturing processes including vendor identification, testing and inspecting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely within a geographically diverse team to resolve technical issues
  • Proven ability to communicate key project information or recommendations to internal/external customers
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of time once role is established
