Vice President of Engineering

Description

The Vice President of Engineering is a key change-agent and enterprise leader for Pearson Packaging Systems. This person will work out of either the Spokane, WA or Ashland, VA office to provide leadership for short and long-term strategic plans, standardize the Engineering department, act resource management, and provide technical guidance for both facilities. This role is the company-wide leader for human capital management and project execution in engineering, as well as new product and process development support. As the point person for resource skill development in the technical community, the Vice President of Engineering is a critical member of the Operations Leadership Team.

Essential functions and responsibilities are subject to change at any time:

  • Ensure engineering is staffed with the appropriate talent, skills, training, and resources to support current and future technology and business requirements
  • Create and champion innovative improvements to critical engineering and manufacturing production processes, leading to large improvements in quality, decreased costs, increased capacity and increased safety performance
  • Design an engineering process that supports the efficient use of resources and aligns with world-class design and execution
  • Lead and report on engineering capacity planning and gain efficiency by reducing non-value added processes
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Machines as a Service initiative
  • Translate growth, safety, cost, service and quality strategies into defined asset and process investments
  • Identify and develop relationships with key external technology partners in packaging and material handling
  • Appropriately communicate strategic, capacity and performance expectations to Engineering Managers to meet company objectives
  • Create a strong vision for the future to be accomplished by strategic thoughts and actions 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or equivalent degree/experience; MBA a plus
  • 10+ years' experience in the packaging industry
  • Professional experience in providing sound judgement and leading and organizing cross-functional teams
  • Sound applicable knowledge of processing, packaging, controls, systems integration and safety
  • Proven ability to assess organizational and individual needs and develop plans to meet them
  • Capable of accepting responsibility and accountability of new and varied assignments
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate assigned projects, and hire, train and guide team members through the production processes
  • Excellent technical, written and verbal communication, and organization and problem-solving skills
  • Innate capability to problem solve and create order out of chaos in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, fluid environment
  • Strong financial acumen
