Process Engineer - Ashland, VA

Description

Flexicell, a Pearson Packaging Systems Company, helps high volume manufacturers and distributors primarily in the food and beverage industry to automate their secondary packaging processes. As a pioneer in its field, Flexicell has extensive expertise in the design, manufacture and integration of robotic solutions for picking, packing and palletizing applications. As part of Pearson Packaging Systems, Flexicell supports the entire end-of-line including erecting, packing, sealing, palletizing and full line integration.

The Process Engineer is accountable for review and analysis of design, applications, suppliers and new technology in order to ensure and maintain the manufacturability of hardware products. She or he will assist in evaluating and recommending ways to improve manufacturing methods, using knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work with existing vendors on: print clarification, material substitutions, lead time variances, work load, defects and rework, on-time delivery, and part pricing
  • Lead cross-functional alignment efforts with other departments (i.e. Engineering, Supply Chain, and Purchasing) to lower total cost of ownership through improved cost and lead time reduction, cost avoidance, and cost containment objectives
  • Interact with vendors to determine quality products and product specifications and arrange for purchase of parts and materials
  • Provide cost estimates, capability estimates, and production recommendations for new products
  • Spot check and QA outgoing work from Engineering—troubleshoot problems and initiate corrective action when necessary
  • Work with scheduling to determine supplier loads on short lead time projects as well as large legacy projects
  • Manage, communicate, and support Engineering changes for expedited requests


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in a Manufacturing or equivalent environment
  • Prior participation in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma preferred
  • Experience working with Epicor or a similar ERP system
  • Demonstrated leadership and negotiation, conflict management, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to coordinate and execute multiple projects simultaneously
  • Capable of working independently with minimal direction and supervision
  • Excellent technical, written and verbal communication, and organizational skills
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite
