Field Service Technician

Description

Pearson is currently hiring for a Field Service Technician to setup mechanical/electrical/pneumatic/PLC systems to meet customer acceptance operational criteria. The Field Service Technician will be responsible for providing training to both operators and maintenance personnel at customer facilities, completing on-site system evaluations, installing machine enhancements, and testing and calibrating parts to meet product specifications. This role requires 100% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Install and setup equipment (mechanical, electrical and PLC) and robotic systems to meet customer acceptance operational criteria
  • Provide operator/maintenance training, and formal machine training to customers when required
  • Complete on-site system audits/evaluations for the purpose of identifying the root cause of issues preventing the system from meeting customers’ expectations
  • Use an “eyes-wide-open” approach when in the field to proactively review other onsite equipment and offer services and/or report back to Pearson Service Support Team with potential customer opportunities
  • Install packaging and robotic systems machine enhancements/upgrades/retrofits from engineering drawings, which will include machines or fabricated parts to relatively large or heavy sub-assemblies and complete units, and then testing and calibrating parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product specifications
  • Document all on-site activities, findings, and recommendations for customer review and approval prior to leaving the customer’s facility, including documenting any follow-up actions
  • Perform proactive work, such as contacting customers to see how equipment is performing, following up on previous service calls, or providing technical support from home when not scheduled for customer visits and logging all activities into appropriate tracking systems

Qualifications

  • Technical school degree and a minimum of 10 years of experience installing, training, and repairing machines and robotic systems specific to the packaging industry
  • Combined minimum of 5 years of experience in fabrication, assembly, and controls/electrical work
  • Ability to read and understand 2D and 3D drawings
  • Ability to read and interpret PLC logic as it pertains to system functionality, as well as the ability to modify PLC logic to resolve issues when necessary
  • Proficient in packaging machinery training
  • Strong problem solving and independent decision-making abilities
  • Superior customer service skills, and professional/clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Experienced with Microsoft applications and CRM/ERP tools
